Costa Rica : La Fortuna - Day One

We traveled to Costa Rica for the Ultra Maraton- Arenal in April and decided to stay at the sleepy tourist town of  La Fortuna.  If you are running this race be ready to run in the tropical rain forest. The race is run in the Arenal Volcano National Park around the Arenal Lake.

From San Jose to La Fortuna is about three hour taxi ride- cost was $150. This was the going rate, as we asked around. I'm sure if you are booking a stay thru a hotel they may have other accommodations.

Where we stayed:

We booked our apartment thru AirBnb. We went to check in at the Tour Office. One of the guys came and opened the apartment and gave us a mini tour. Two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and a small patio in the front.  It was perfect for our stay and under $100USD for the 4 nights we stayed. The apartment was walking distance from the main street where all the restaurants, bars and main park where.

Costa Rica

As a full time mom, part time student,  plus working full time, taking time off takes a lot of planning and second guessing.  Not to mention the mom guilt that comes with it.
However, is crucial to slow down and just breathe and take time for yourself to reboot and recharge.

I still felt guilty coming back from Costa Rica but was put at ease when my nine year old said, “ Mami, you’re attitude is different since you came back. You are more happy, more relax. I like it.”

That’s all the approval I need to let me know I’m on the right path.
